Buffalo City Hall with Niagara Square (mini Washington monument). This is my favorite building in the city. Look, there's no snow on the ground!!!
The top and observation deck of City Hall. Can you say Art Deco?
The Liberty Building. It has a little Statue of Liberty on each tower that are lit at night.
Top of the Niagara Mohawk Building. A local radio station has a ball drop every New Year's Eve from the top of the NIMO Building. Lots of fun!!
New York Central Terminal photos:
Buffalo Central Terminal. Then and now. This is where the New York-Central Railroad came through Buffalo. It was a grand building in it's prime. When the building closed during the '80's, it was vandalized and fell into disrepair. A dedicated group of people have been restoring this beautiful building to it's former grandeur. This is Jason's favorite building in Buffalo!
New York State Thruway became a parking lot filled with abandoned vehicles.
Downtown Buffalo showing the Skyway Bridges and the Marine Midland Building (now HSBC, the tallest building in Buff.)
This was the easiest way to get around after the winds died down. It took days to dig out from all of that snow!! We didn't see snow plows for quite a while between the snow and the abandoned cars the plows just couldn't get through. I remember a neighbor that had just gotten a brand new Corvette right before the Blizzard. It was parked in the street when the storm came. The next time the guy saw his car was AFTER the plows hit it! Who buys a WHITE car?!?
Favorite Buffalo Restaurants:
Pesci's has the best pizza!!
The Original Anchor Bar, the home of Chicken Wing.
We, The People Of Buffalo (and surrounding areas) hold these truths to be self-evident:
Food:
- We call the "wings" or "chicken wings." We never call them "buffalo wings."
- They're "subs," not "hoagies or heroes or bombers."
- A large pizza with cheese and pepperoni shouldn't cost more than eleven bucks.
Dining out:
- Everyone knows where "the best fish-fry in town" is.
- There is no public restaurant in town that requires a jacket and tie...and if there was, we wouldn't go there.
- You won't find Gray Poupon on the table.
- We don't "valet park" unless there is absolutely no other choice.
- Every bar has "Happy Hour" prices from 4:30-7:00PM Monday-Friday.
Geography & Roads:
- We call it the "Scajaquada" but spell it the "198."
- The most famous address in history is "998 Broadway."
- We think anyone who drives more than 20 minutes to get to work must live out in the boondocks.
- We get mad when stuck in the "rush hour" traffic and it takes 10 minutes longer to get home.
- We still avoid the "blue water tower" during rush hour if at all possible.
- We still refer to places like Sloan and Blasdell.
- To us, "LA" is Lackawanna, not Los Angeles.
- "CA" is Canada, not California.
Institutions:
- We've all been threatened by our parents to be sent to Father Baker's when we didn't behave.
- It's the "Hamburg Fair," not the "Erie County Fair and Expo."
- We know the wrong newspaper folded in 1983.
- J.C. Penney's is considered to be a relatively "upscale" department store here.
- It's "UB."...not "SUNY at Buffalo, Amherst."
- We have some kind of "fest" here, every weekend from Memorial Day to Labor Day.
Sports:
- We're sure that the NFL is out to do us in... so is the NHL...the NBA already did...so did Major League Baseball...so did the Big East Conference.
- We are not desperate enough to support professional roller hockey...yet.
- We can't believe that we once liked OJ.
Miscellaneous:
- None of the new theme parks are as cool as Crystal Beach was in it's day.
- It ain't a real snowstorm unless they ban driving for more than 6 hours.
- A shovel, a snow brush and jumper cables are always in our car trunks.
People who live in areas subject to hurricanes, tornadoes, floods, droughts, wild fire, mudslides and earthquakes can't believe that we would rather live in an area that gets so much snow? Imagine that!
Guess they would rather drown, burn, or get blown away, or buried alive than shovel for a while. Hey, World; we have snow plows and snow blowers; and we have all four seasons and sometimes all in one day! Top that !!
PS: We also have Weber's Mustard, Sahlen's Hot Dogs, Wardinski's Polish Sausage, Kimmel Weck Rolls, Texas Hot Dogs and Chiavetta's Barbecue Sauces. It doesn't get any better than that!!

Our Lady Of Victory Basilica in Lackawanna, NY:
Buffalo has recently lost two of her favorite sons.
"Hizzoner" Jimmy Griffin, Mayor of Buffalo, 1977-1993, passed away May 25, 2008.
Tim Russert, Washington Bureau Chief, NBC News; Moderator of "Meet The Press," author and a wonderful Ambassador for all that is Buffalo, passed away June 13, 2008.
Rest in peace, you will be missed by all that you left behind.
Tim Russert statue at the Erie Basin Marina. It has recently been moved to Canisus High School, Tim Russert's alma mater.
